Mike "Vursatal" Spann is a 26 y.o. composer/producer for the group "Playa Connected" in Brandon, MS. I met Mike for the first time in April of this year and found out at that time,  just how musically inclined he was. Mike has a deep love for music and spends a great deal of time making new beats and sounds in his studio. The love of music is something he and I both share. Mike has been gifted with an ear for music and he is ready to share his gifts with all of you. I want the world to know about this music engineer. I asked him some questions last week and he responded:

Who inspires you?

I'm inspired by who I think is the greatest of all time, “Timbaland.” I say him because of his ability to create music out of almost anything (from recording a baby crying in one of Aaliyah's old songs to hearing about him using plastic cups in a beat to make a song). But I still give much respect to music made by Dr.Dre, Polow Da Don, a duo called The Runners, and can't forget about one of my favorites, Kanye West.

When did you realize you had a love for music?
I've always had a deep love for music and different styles of music every since I was a little boy. I used to love to and still do listen to the old slow songs on WKXI 107.5. This gives me a love for soul and which I do sometimes use samples of old soul music in the music I create now.

What types of music do you compose?
As of now I make mostly Rap, R & B, and I'm trying to get into making pop music too.

What is the name of the group you are working with and what are their names?
I work with a big family called Playa Connected and they are Corey"Url" Kelly, Austin"Ice Berg"Harvey, Cameron"Yella Boy"Jones, Connie"Ashley Rai"Jones, Lo Watts, and T.O.

How long have you been producing?
I've been making beats for about two years now but just got really serious about it within the last six months I would say. I said making beats because I feel that I just really started to become more of a producer. In producing, I actually give input on how I think the rapper or singer should rap or sing the song. For a long time I just made the music and gave it to who ever wanted it without giving any thoughts about it.

Where do you see yourself in the music industry in 5 years?
In 5 years I really think I will be very well known as a great producer. I'm working so hard to make it big as a producer and I really like to mix music. I'm practicing on trying to learn to mix and master music too.

Are there any other groups you are working with at the present time?
As of now Playa Connected is the only group I work with. I am working with some other artists though. Some are Terez from Memphis, TN, Great Britt from Houston,TX, and I am supposed to be connecting with some more local artist in the future.

What are the names of some of the songs you have produced?
"Anything you can do"-Lo Watts with Ashley Rai and Yella boy, and "Hustla"-same artist, and "S. Healing" with Url and Iceberg.

What types of equipment do you use in your studio?
I've used about there different kinds of music production software. But now I use a keyboard called an Open Labs Miko. It can do everything I need to create music, and it also has a computer built into it. This is very helpful and I have connected a monitor to it to have a bigger view of what I'm doing. I no longer need mixer boards and other keyboards because I can actually copy any sounds I want from any keyboard into the one I have.
