REMEMBER PEOPLE, THESE ARE MY THOUGHTS.
GET MAD, IT'S COOL. I HAVE A BULLETPROOF VEST ON LAYAWAY. WE NEED TO OPEN UP THE DOORS OF COMMUNICATION AND NOT BE AFRAID TO SAY THINGS THAT MAY NOT BE POPULAR.
HERE WE GO!
Many of our black athletes come from humble beginnings. They came up watching their single mothers struggle, working long hours, or hustling to take care of them. A lot of them grew up without fathers and had mothers strung out on drugs. Sports were their escape.
To the future athlete these are some of the things that they saw on a daily basis.
* NO DAD IN THEIR LIVES
* WELFARE/FOOD STAMPS/LOW INCOME HOUSING
* DRUG DEALERS/PIMPS/PROSTITUTION
* SCHOOL DROPOUTS
When John, (the future athlete) was in the hood, many of the black girls he grew up with were GHETTO!
(LOUD, MATERIALISTIC, HOES, UNEDUCATED, POT HEADS, ALCOHOLICS, SCHOOL DROPOUTS, AND TEENAGE MOTHERS WITH NO AMBITION)
The girls in the hood were comfortable in their community, not seeing a need to change. Most never thought about life outside of the box and neither did John, until sports.So you have this black boy, that may not be too bright academically, but he can play ball. The coach has stars in his eyes and he grooms John and does whatever he has to, to make sure that this young, black, buck is eligible to play ball. John is the man now. All the girls love him. All the boys want to be cool with him. He is a hero in his community. John will be one of the few to make it out of the hood.
*HERES THE PROBLEM!
This child has no knowledge of self. God is nowhere in the equation. His momma is seeing dollar signs and a way to get out of the hood. Coach wants another notch in his belt and a trophy in the school trophy case. Being on the news and in the paper is great too. He wants to coach college ball one day. John's “friends" want to ride on is coat tail. He is no longer John. He is a meal ticket. He now feels the need to make it so that he can be the provider for his family
*WHAT ARE JOHN'S LIKES OR DISLIKES?
*HOW DOES HE FEEL ABOUT THINGS OTHER THAN SPORTS?
*DOES HE HAVE A SPIRITUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?
WE ARE TALKING ABOUT INTERRACIAL MARRIAGES, BUT I DO WANT TO SAY THAT THERE ARE SOME BLACK ATHLETES THAT HAVE BLACK WIVES, MOSTLY WOMEN THEY WERE WITH BEFORE THEY GOT RICH.
The colleges want John and he goes to college and sees a world much different than the one he's used to. He went from being around a predominantly black neighborhood, to an environment where there are white people everywhere.
*TALK ABOUT A CULTURE SHOCK!
John had groupies in the hood, who wanted a piece of his action, always taking from him, never being emotionally giving of themselves, because they had issues of their own. In college, John had a different kind of groupie. WHITE GROUPIES! Instead of taking from John, they were giving him everything on a silver platter. The white girls were at his beck and call and they didn't have an attitude or talk back. They loved his black skin. They loved the way he walked and talked, and dressed. They liked John's swagger and plus they wanted to know if the rumor was true about black men having the Mandingo sticks.
Next thing you know, these girls are giving him money, letting him drive their cars, and inviting him to all the parties in the affluent neighborhoods. He's spending time in houses he's only seen on TV. To John, he is in a better place and it is easy to forget about the hood that he came from.To John the white girls in college were way different then the black girls back home. The white girls talked to John, not at him. They listened to what he had to say. If he had problems in school, those white girls would stay up all night if they had to, to make sure John understood what he needed to for a test. If he wanted his stick orally dipped, he got it without all the lip that the black girls gave him. If John cheated on his white girlfriend, there was usually no scene, unlike when Tammy caught him with a girl and tried to beat him in the head with a frying pan. The white girls are submissive and have their eyes on the prize. John has the potential to be a millionaire and they are on standby, ready to step in, to be the black athlete’s wife.
Momma, maybe daddy, other athletes and their families, and a whole bunch of white men are in a room. The future star waits with anticipation to see if he is going to be one of the chosen ones. I don't watch drafts because when John gets chosen, he gets his jersey, smiles for the camera, looking like a big dummy, with a red faced white man on one side and his momma crying tears of joy on the other side.
“THE SLAVE TRADE BEGINS "Our ancestors used to stand around in shackles waiting to be picked. The masters only wanted the biggest, strongest, and dumbest slaves, to be on their plantation. They didn't want their "niggers" doing something stupid like running away. Our modern day slave owners are able to entice and manipulate our black men with the promise of money, cars, houses, and women. John's Christian mother is so happy about all the things that her son is going to give her that his well being never even crosses her mind.
*WHERE IS GOD NOW?
*IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS BABY!
*I'M RICH 'ITCH!
John goes back to the hood to visit and everyone has their hands out. They need a loan. They want him to help them start a business, etc.... If John gives up the cash, he's the man. If he doesn't, then he's a sellout. The women sex him just because he's rich and John doesn't even have to spend a dime on them.
He starts to look at his home different. When he was poor like them the hood gave him comfort. Now that he's got money, it's hard for him to relate and he wants to get the heckup out of there.
John goes back to his new world and he's surrounded by mostly white people, who are successful. He meets white girls that have their own money, are born into money, or they are college educated and have great careers or businesses of their own. He dates a white girl and respects her because she has confidence and knows that all she has to do is be a lady in public. She is poised, dressed well, speaks well, smiles, and she's quite and supportive. She knows she has this man in her pocket.
I think black athletes marry outside their race to escape the lives they came from. When they were in the hood it was all good. When they saw how life could be on the other side, their minds were pretty much made up. He sees the white world as prime rib and the hood as ham hocks, and he doesn't eat pork anymore.Black athletes have to become one with God and get to know themselves. He has to allow his heart to choose and not who will look good on his arm or in the eyes of society.
*TO MY SISTERS!
I think that a lot of athletes look at us as liabilities. To them we are weave wearing, loud mouthed, head rolling, finger snapping, uneducated, weed smoking, broke, hoes from the hood. They look at us and see their mother that had to struggle. The one he has to take care of. He doesn't have or want to take care of us. John feels that he can build with the white woman. He can control her. He can cheat on her, apologize on national television, buy her a two million dollar ring, and she will stay with him.I believe that the athlete is a product of his new environment. When in Rome!
There are a lot of black women out here doing their thing. When you don't live amongst the elite, how are the athletes going to find us? I would also like to say that whether you’re an athlete or not, when a person starts making big money, the people they choose to get involved with changes most of the time.
*HOW MANY LADIES MAKING $100,000.00 WILL DATE THE FRY GUY WORKING AT BURGER KING?
*HOW MANY LADIES MAKING $40,000.00 WILL DATE THE FRY GUY WORKING AT BURGER KING?
*TELL THE TRUTH LADIES!
When you're broke, you’re more understanding of a person’s circumstances, and your more willing to give someone making less than you a chance. Start making that money and watch how your preferences change.
*TO THE ATHLETES!
There are a lot of sisters out here that are smart, successful, loving women that will treat you like the kings you are. I will say that there are also a lot of us that need to step our games up. Yes the white girls love you, but we LOVE you and we know your struggle and we feel your pain. So, be open to give us a try. If your love for God is true, then He will lead you to your true life partner and color will not be an issue.
